My Tribute to Pops

This is a poem written by 9-year old Cara Studdart, grand niece of Bishop Alo on the occasion of the untimely burial of her grand-dad and brother-in-law of Bp. Pat who officiated at the funeral services of the late Paul Studdart, an unassuming British scientist, at the Capitol Parish Church in Cebu City on April 2, 2014. Paul and his wife Chit offered the bread and wine at Bp. Alo’s golden sacerdotal anniversary on March 14, 2014 at the Mati Cathedral.  Cara wishes to touch other hearts, especially unforgettable grandparents or “nice elderly people” through her simple poem.

Paul was a man that had to be

One of the nicest people who has taken care of me.

He was loved and still may it be so

He was a man who never said no.

It’s hard to describe him as he was so nice

He was always there to give advice.

He taught me things I didn’t know

Starting off nice and slow.

Writing this gives me a tear

But I always remember he’s right here.

He was a husband, a father, and granddad too

Always there to buckle your shoe.

He would cuddle you if you started to cry

Or introduce you if you got shy.

We don’t realize how much we miss things

   until we let them go

If it’s either a shock or really slow.

He was loved by more than one

So I wrote this poem as he was also fun.

Paul’s a man who had great talent

Who held you up when you needed to balance.

So as my poem comes to an end

All our love to Paul we send.
