HERALDS OF THE GOOD NEWS

“A volunteer leader’s personal passion for the group’s mission is contagious and it motivates.” – John M. Knibb
We have already honored our employees (former) in the celebration of our 60th anniversary last year. This time, we honor our volunteers of whose passion is contagious and is motivating for the media apostolate’s realization of its vision-mission.

Luzviminda Orilla
Research & Database Department
Statistician

There is no stopping Ma’am Luz to compute numbers. They are her friends. Statistics is her best ally. Her involvement in the media apostolate sprung from her late husband’s inspiration who also served as a Kaabag in their GKK before he returned to his Maker. When her team mates in Research and Database Department gets confused, she would always say: “ No worry. I am just at your back, in support.” And this assurance speeds up the Radio Feasibility Study as bunch of tables were put in place with proper interpretation and analysis. Thus, everybody is happy with her graduating in PhD Statistics, soon. Currently, she is the Research Coordinator of the College of Arts and Sciences Education (CASE) of the University of Mindanao (UM). Ma’am Luz dreams to see the radio operating as well as presenting a research paper inside a cruise ship. Feeling and looking always young, Ma’am Luz is here to stay!

Marian Carmela Raquel
Member, Social Media Department

For Marian, the greatest gift we could give in this Year of the Laity is our own Sainthood. Serving her parish in Ma-a, Marian calls for everyone to desire in becoming a saint : “ Let our daily lives be focused on a single goal: to be with God in Heaven. We are called to be saints!”
An expert in human resource management, Marian manages her time in attending to the needs of her friends as well as in extending help to inmates of Davao City Jail. She also loves ‘romancing the lens’. It is because she loves every moment of life so she records it in photos.
“Every pix has a story, it evokes memories of events and people. When I look at a photo I also recall the glow on your face, the twinkle in your eyes, the unspoken message, the emotions, the tears and the laughter of the moment. I feel once again the thrill in the mountain top, the danger, the fears and joys, exhilaration, the warmth, the rain and the wind on my face. Yes, a beautiful part of your life’s story is written in my pictures. That is why I always have my camera on hand. Who knows if the last ‘CLICK’ I make could be your last photo, or perhaps it could be my last romance with the lens – my last shot! So, say ‘Jeez’ and SMILE! See, how passionately she sees life? Go, Ate Marian!

Brenda Pacana Milan
Photographer

It takes thousands of pesos in purchasing a DSLR camera with all its accessories. It takes another thousand to hire an official photographer to cover big events in the Archdiocese of Davao. But thanks to a generous heart like that of Brenda Milan.

Ate Brenda is an active member of the Gawad Kalinga who passionately brings in photos via her FB account for Herald’s publication. Stressing that she hasn’t undergone training in Photojournalism, God in His goodness, has endowed her with the skill to take better pictures one event at a time.
A kind mother and a faithful wife, Ate Brenda extends her service by using all her energies and gadgets not just for Davao Catholic Herald newspaper but the Regional Major Seminary (REMASE), as well. Lady photographer, God bless you!

Wanna see more of her shots? Visit her FB site at Brenda Pacana Milan or via Davao Catholic Herald Official, of course, that’s aside from our hard copy.

Edwin Banquerigo, Jr.
Photo Database In-charge

His parents’ entry to the Radio Research Team paved the way for this young, future doctor to reach the doorstep of DC Herald. Smart and daring, Edwin never fails to be keen in every task assigned to him (because a microscope is his partner)!
Being an altar boy for almost 6 years, Win understands the value of service to the Church and of being close to Mama Mary (since his parents belong to the Cenacle movement).
And so, the media apostolate is blessed to have somebody who is humble enough to learn from his older brothers and sisters in the media ministry. Welcome Doki!
