Business solutions for climate change sought

PASAY CITY—In the celebration of Climate Change Consciousness Week last November, the Climate Change Commission (CCC) has organized a three-day summit that will address the effects of Climate Change.
One of the events was the Business Summit held November 26, 2014 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

GMA Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe Gozon who made the welcome remarks and industry vision for the summit said Climate Change is a very serious problem that needs serious and comprehensive solution.

“Businesses as a whole should be mindful of the inconvenient truth. Let’s shift to environment-friendly ways,” he said, adding that their news gathering them has experienced the fury of Mother Nature especially during the onslaught of Typhoon Yolanda.

He added businesses will suffer if they will not ensure that water is potable and air is clean.
CCC Secretary Atty. Mary Ann Lucille Sering in her keynote address said Business Sector is the most important sector in fighting the effects of climate change.

Industry leaders also gave their pieces about Climate Risk Management for Business like Dr. Gemma Teresa Narisma of the Manila Observatory.

Other discussions also include renewable energy for sustainable business development, energy efficiency for climate change mitigation, and shaping climate resilient communities by decongesting cities.

Another highlight of the summit is the presentation of Solar Philippines President Leandro Leviste about the benefits of solar power for businesses. At 21, he is heading a start-up company that provides and installs solar panels in the rooftops of businesses like SM Malls.

The forum was attended by businessmen and administrators of different businesses in Luzon.
