National Bible Week celebration kicked off

The Archdiocese of Davao celebrates the National Bible Week, January 19- 25, 2015 with the theme “Sharing God’s word empowering the poor, transforming the land,” and Bible Sunday on January 25, 2015.

This annual celebration was made official by former President Corazon C. Aquino under proclamation number 44 in 1986 and was reinforced by President Fidel Ramos in Presidential Proclamation 1067 that the bible week should be celebrated every first month of the year. This is to encourage people to read, study, share and live the word of God.

The Archdiocese of Davao had a motorcade opening last January 17, 2015, and bible enthronement followed by a mass 6:00 in the evening at San Pedro Cathedral Parish.

Every parish celebrates the National bible Week through various activities such as coral competition, bible quiz, poster making, bible symposium and a lot more. It is also a must in Parishes and GKK (Gagmayng Kristohanong Katilingban) to have the Bible Enthronement.

Public schools and Catholic schools such as Holy Cross of Davao College, Ateneo de Davao University, and University of Immaculate Concepcion celebrated in their respective ways. (Jesa B. Tombo/Sharmaine C. Tagose)
