HISTORY

1970s

  • Youth started to be disinterested in the Church’s service during Martial Law due to increased crime rate, illiteracy, and leftist movements.
  • The late Abp. Mabutas felt the need to organize the youth, as the thrust of the archdiocese then was building small Christian communities.

1980s

  • Archdiocesan Youth Council was handled by 1st leader Mr. Bruce Laguesma. AYC was later named: Davao Archdiocesan Youth Coordinating Apostolate (DAYCA).
  • Milestone included: Archdiocesan Youth Pastoral Assembly of Davao (AYPAD). This brought unity among youth from parishes, transparochial communities, and schools.

1990s

  • Abp. Fernando Capalla was installed in November 1996.
  • DAYCA served as the coordinating body.
  • Attention was given to the young. In fact, he gave DAYCA three spiritual directors.

2000s

  • Vision-mission redefined.
  • New logo was introduced.
  • Youth program was heard on-air via DXGN FM.
  • Youth Festival and National Youth Day 2006 were organized.

2012

  • DAYCA identified approaches and strategies to combat negative effects of media and
other technology; produced and circulated Kalakbay Newsletter.
  • Revisited VMG and expanded service to out-of-school youth, young professionals, and indigenous peoples.

  • Continues to calibrate and update systems to reach the youth in the GKKs.
