Fathers’ Day

Every third Sunday of June, the world celebrates Fathers’ Day. This is a secular observance which reminds us of giving honor and respect to our human father who became instrumental in giving us life. The noble gift of being a father goes with the responsibility of being a provider, protector, educator and example.

“The divine fatherhood is the source of human fatherhood; this is the foundation of the honor owed to parents. The respect of children, whether minors or adults, for their father and mother is nourished by the natural affection born of the bond uniting them” (CCC 2214).

Today, let us show special gratitude to God, the Father in heaven, by heartily saying a word of thanks, giving a token of love, doing any kind of affection to our “Papa”, “Tatay”, “Daddy.” Just as a child is a gift to a father, a father is a gift to a son. A father is worth the love and respect despite any imperfection.

“With all your heart honor your father, and do not forget the birth pangs of your mother. Remember that through your parents you were born; what can you give back to them that equals their gift to you?” (Sir. 7:27-28).
