Payback Time

FOR retirees like you and me, we are relatively relieved since we have no more children to send to school. Well, here’s a suggestion to keep us all busy and still engaged. Why don’t we all pick some young kid, a neighbor or a child of an employee or a destitute or maybe some grandchildren and make them scholars to finish their way to college or some vocational course? If we have modest blessings, perhaps, it’s payback time now. There are so many out there who are not equally blessed. Just a thought during this opening of classes season.

MUDSLINGING—Here we go again! Pinoys’ favorite “cottage industry”, the political circus is back in town! When the mudslinging starts, we know elections are just around the corner.

******

SOCIAL MEDIA—With the dawning of social media and cyberspace, a whole new world has emerged. Everyone can now report/post or comment or give opinions. This used to be the exclusive preserve of journalists. Not anymore. A new political ballgame is upon us all. Exciting times, indeed!

******

QUESTIONS—I have some troubling questions about the BBL. What’s the real score now on BBL? Will it pass in Congress? If so, when? Will the Senate version be acceptable to the bangsamoro? Abangan!

******

DIVISIVE—It’s been a divisive topic since public discourse started. I found out that those who know what BBL is all about are somehow supportive. Those who have not read up close on the details, due to “fears of the unknown” oppose it.

******

NO OTHER WAY—After all the smoke clears, the bottom line for me is to pass the law that will be the sustainable legal framework to address that oft-quoted but not-too-understood “bangsamoro aspiration for self-determination.” There is no other way.

******

GIVE IT A TRY—My humble advice to the non-believers is to give it a try and let time test it. The pestering fear of creating an environment for secession in the future should be dispelled by the reality that government has all the options to address any unintended result or eventuality. Congress can later strike down the law, if need be. At the end of the day, the sovereign people, not only the bangsamoro, shall have the final say.
