IHMA: Once a Seed, Now a Towering Tree

When someone gives you a seed, plant it until it grows to a tree and then create a forest.

The Immaculate Heart of Mary Academy (IHMA) owned and managed by the Missionaries of the Immaculate Conception (MIC) was once a modest school of knowledge that, adapting to the changing generations, grew to an esteemed institution of learning guided by its vision and mission to provide higher quality of education and excellent service and facilities.

With the new K-12 curriculum at hand, IHMA took a transforming step in its educational journey by bidding goodbye to its old High School structure to welcome the new building arranged for the Senior High School (SHS). From sketches and tarpaulins since summer of 2015, the impressive 70-M worth white-and-blue edifice took shape under the command of Engr. Noel Bersabe on time for the opening of SY 2016-2017.

The Directress Sr. Milagros M. Gomez, MIC, led in the official launching of the building on June 8, 2016, witnessed by the school community composed of the MIC congregation, employees, parent-teacher association officers, the board of trustees, students, sponsors, and benefactors.

The ribbon-cutting was followed by the blessing of the entire building by Fr. Edilberto R. Mahinay, DCM, who also presided over the Eucharistic celebration, expressing utmost gratitude and praise to God. “What does this building stand for?” asked MIC Provincial Superior Sr. Leticia Dotollo, MIC, who then echoed the MIC creed: “This is our giving back to the Almighty God as this is an act of mission in realizing our dream for the children, since we live by heart that life is a perpetual hymn of thanksgiving.”

To end the activity, Engr. Bersabe turned over the certificates and keys to the school directress. With the new equipment, facilities and exceptional amenities, the school will continue to serve as training ground for the youth under the K-12 curriculum where a wall between the Junior High and Senior High School students indicates a difference every student aspires for.

At IMHA, students have taken hold of the handrail to climb to the top of their goals, inspired by a new environment that sparks the imagination to motivate each one to engage more in his/her studies and learn more and needed skills.

The sweat and sacrifices endured finally earned the dreamed accomplishment while IHMA remains open to further improvement. Students take hold of the challenging handrail as they climb to the top of their goals. Indeed one reaps what one sows. From a seed, IHMA now has grown to a sturdy huge tree. With water, light and the right amount of soil, its next goal is to create a forest. (Aima Lynn Pagayawan, Gr. 11-Harmony. Next follows ‘Starting the Year with the Holy Spirit’ by Byron J. Gillana)
