The chastity question

Because of the evil influence of bad media, men and women of today tend to downgrade the moral value of purity and chastity as far as sex relations are concerned. In some, living together without the blessings of holy matrimony seems a normal way of life, maybe because our movies do not put high value on the sacredness of marriage. “What God hath joined together, let not man put asunder” (Mt. 19:6; Mk. 10:8).

So the age-old wisdom says: “Nothing makes a woman more esteemed by the opposite sex than Chastity.” Before marriage, purity and self-control; after marriage, faithfulness to one husband. The same can be said on the part of the husband. “No man can serve two masters” (Mt. 6:24).

We think of Mary who “kept all these things and pondered them in her heart” (Lk. 2:19, 51). Like Mary as true disciples of her Son and our Brother Jesus, let us remain open to the cleansing power of the Spirit that our hearts may be emptied of sensual seductiveness and be more sensitive to the things of God. “I will sprinkle clean water over you to make you clean; from all your impurities and from all your idols I will cleanse you. I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you…I will put my spirit within you so that you walk in my statutes, observe my ordinances, and keep them” (Ezekiel 36: 25-27). Come Holy Spirit of God and restore purity in all our relationships!
