Pray the Rosary

rosary editorial“The family that prays together stays together.” This slogan made popular by the Servant of God Fr. Patrick Peyton in his Rosary Crusade is very significant this year as we celebrate The Year of the Eucharist and the Family. What holds families together is their connection to God through their prayers. Are parents, being the first teachers of their children, good examples or role models of individuals who pray? This is a most crucial and critical question.

The family is subtly under attack today. Parental influence is challenged by media; pro-choice is presented as the best; lifetime marriage commitment is questioned; same sex union is aggressively pursued, etc. There is no other weapon to defend such absurdities but prayer. Would a Catholic family take this fight lying down?

Every family must be vigilant with the spiritual combat waged by the enemies on our souls. Take heed of Our Lady’s exhortation: “Pray the Rosary.” Pope Pius XII insisted in his own time: “If you pray the Rosary together, you will experience peace in your families; you will get on together.”

Nothing is equal to prayer; for what is impossible it makes possible, what is difficult, easy, says St. Chrysostom. Let us take our Rosary beads then, gather our families together and kneel down to pray.
