The Merciful King

Every year the Church celebrates the Feast of Christ the King on the last Sunday of November. It is the 30th day of this month. This day is also the closing day of what Pope Francis calls the Extraordinary Year of Mercy which began last year on 8 December 2015.

Holy Scriptures and Church teaching remind us that God is King and is a God of Mercy. The face of a king‎ and of mercy became visible in the person of Jesus Christ, God in human form.

The Kingship of Christ is exercised in His Kingdom which, in the Preface of this day’s Mass text, is “the kingdom of love, justice, and peace.”. And this love, justice and mercy are, in human terms, the expressions of the mercy of God through and in Jesus‎ who is believed, followed and imitated by everyone who personally live and experience the Risen Lord.
