The Bible: Hope for the community’s progress

Bible week editorialTaken from Psalm 133:1 and Romans 12:4-5, this year’s theme for the National Bible week allows us to ponder and work for communion among us all – believers and non-believers as one nation – to unite and renew ourselves as a Filipino nation.

We do not just need to memorize bible verses nor merely be experts in interpreting the Word of God but we also need to translate the Word of God in our daily lives. Praying and reflecting on the Word in our personal and community life by participating in the sacraments nourish our capacity to be one with God, with ourselves, and with our neighbors. Such a true communion leads to progress.

But how often do we read, reflect and share God’s Word? Is it as often as we read and share social networking messages?

More than the time, energy, and resources we spend for modern gadgets of communication, do we also spend the same for avenues to deepen our understanding on God’s communication through the Bible?
