Inter Mirifica in the social media

editorial inter mirificaThe Church has every right and responsibility to be extremely active in the media. This is the reason why Pope Paul VI on December 4, 1963 promulgated a decree on the means of social communications titled Inter Mirifica, a Latin phrase which in English would be translated Among the Wonderful.

Inter Mirifica is a Catholic document aims at addressing the concerns and problems of mass media. The themes of the document include responsibility of the media, including those involved in producing media. It pointed out that the Catholic Church needs to become a more effective force in mass media. In order to do this more completely the Church has to better understand public opinion, how it is formed and how it affects people.

Nowadays, social media is changing the behavior of the world of which the authors of Inter Mirifica would have not thought of. Media now is determining what is morally acceptable. The aim of Inter Mirifica is for the Catholic media to be more engaged in striving to help guide the change. Let the Catholic media penetrate in the social media and determine what is morally acceptable.
