The Word made tangible

Commemorating the written Word of God in the Bible also awakens the devout hearts to the active living out of God’s Word, leading to a deeper encounter of the mystery of divine love to its fullness. Daily is our recollection of the ‘Word made flesh’ in praying the Angelus and in celebrating the Eucharist made tangible with HIM, the unseen High Priest, leading us through the ordained priest in the offering of the Eucharistic Sacrifice. Jesus wants us to share in the very life of the Trinity—LOVE—by giving ourselves as He Himself has been gifted to us forever by the Father.

“How did the love of God appear among us? God sent His only Son into this world that we might have life through Him. This is love: not that we loved God but that He first loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins…We have known the love of God and have believed in it. God is love. The one who lives in love, lives in God and God in him” (1 Jn. 4:9-10; 16). “But if we are unfaithful He will still remain faithful, for He cannot deny Himself” (2 Tim. 2:13). Jesus cannot deny Himself because Love does not contradict itself; it is total and forever abiding. We are unfaithful to ourselves when we refuse to love someone in the way Jesus taught us. “You shall love your neighbor as yourself…to love our neighbor as ourselves is more important than any burnt offering or sacrifice” (Mark 12:31; 33).

The Bible, the sacred Word of God, is His eternal legacy of love enfleshed in His Son and our Brother, Jesus Christ. How noteworthy it is to share this legacy of the Word made tangible in love through various forms and activities, including the use of social media as in texting messages of God’s word. Then we build up the Body of Christ: “We have many parts in the one body, and all these parts have different functions. In the same way, though we are many, we are one body in union with Christ, and we are all joined to each other as different parts of one body” (Rom. 12:4-5); “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons and daughters of your Father in Heaven” (Mt. 5:44-45).
