Migrants Sunday

Today March 5 our Church says a special prayer for many people who travel to other places as migrants looking for work. We call them OFWs or Overseas Filipino Workers. Most of them are Catholics. There are several Protestants and Muslim. Many of them are from the poorest sector of our localities.

The bishops of the local churches where migrants now work have been enjoined to offer assistance in the spiritual, moral, physical and cultural needs of OFWs. As a worldwide support for this aid to migrants including non-Catholics the Church has established an office based in the Vatican called Pontifical Council for Migrants and Itinerant Peoples.

As we celebrate and attend Mass today we pray the safety, health, religious freedom, just treatment by business and private employers. We also pray for priests, religious and lay missionaries in the different chaplaincies in Europe, USA, UK, the Middle East countries as well as in East Asia and Southeast Asia.

We also pray for the officials and staff of the Pontifical Council for Migrants and Itinerant Peoples.
