PNP updates and drug-related cases in town by PNP staff, Padada MASA MASID ORIENTATION at St. Michael Parish Seminar House Padada Davao del sur.

The Local Government Unit and Philippine National Police oriented the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) of St. Michael Parish Padada on matters related to Mamamayang Ayaw Sa Anomalya Mamamayang Ayaw Sa Iligal na Droga (MASA MASID) last April 1, 2017 at St. Michael Parish Seminar House Padada, Davao del Sur.

“Prevention is better than cure – prevention on illegal drugs through drug education that fights against criminality, illegal drugs and corruption,” stressed Ms. Marylou S. Montefalcon – MLGOO in her welcome remarks and rationale of the activity.

Fr. Jupiter S. Canoy, DCD said in vernacular that the use of illegal drugs will not only destroy the body but the spiritual aspect of a person, as well. “Ang paggamit sa ilegal nga druga dili lamang makadaot sa physical na lawas apan makadaot usab sa espiritu ug sa simbahan. Ikaw, ako, kitang tanan mao ang simbahan busa kita adunay dakong misyon ug katungdanan sa pagtabang sa atong mga igsoon nga anaa ug na impluwensiyahan sa paggamit sa illegal na druga”.

MASA MASID is a community-based initiative to engage volunteers in the fight against criminality, corruption and illegal drugs. The purpose of the program is to heighten community involvement by mobilizing the support of local stakeholders, volunteers, civic organizations, faith-based organizations and private sectors in fight against illegal drugs.

Specifically, the program aims to 1. Intensify the advocacy and education campaign in the community, 2. Mobilize the community in gathering information by installing a reporting mechanism on the illegal activities in the locality, 3. Mobilize support group and encourage sharing of available resources to hasten the implementation of the Community-Based Rehabilitation Program: and 4. Create an enabling environment to encourage collaboration among the community partners to effectively implement the Community-Based Rehabilitation Program.

Legal Bases of this program include 1. Article II Section 23 of 1987 Philippine Constitution, 2. Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Drugs Law of the Philippines, 3. Section 3 Part [I] of Local Government Code of 1991, 4. President’s pronouncement to suppress criminality, corruption and illegal drugs.

Among the information being provided were Composition of the UBAS C/M Expanded TWG, Operational Framework, Composition of MASA MASID TEAM at the Barangay Level, MASA MASID VOLUNTEERS, Implementation Strategies, Community Based Rehabilitation Program and Roles and Responsibilities.

Other speakers of the whole-day activity were PSI Jessie T. Dellosa-Chief of Police, PNP Padada, Pastor Jerber M. Pagobo, Ms. Cherry Jane Pasculado, DILG and PNP staff PO3 Mark Albero on Advocacy and Education Campaign and Profiling.

In partnership with the LGU and PNP, the PPC will not only stay as volunteers of MASA MASID but, program implementers in the entire community of Padada, too. (Rhizter M. Rafaela | SMP Padada)
