All things are possible

Life presents constant calls for change, but what kind of change? The answer is – for what is good, that is, what will bring about true improvement or real development of people and surroundings. However, the vision of “good” may vary depending on the person’s grasp of goodness and the means to attain this. His/her definition depends on initial exposure to life through parental influence and continued exposure to events and ideologies that create one’s own philosophy of life and consequent attitudes and ways of behavior.

Education plays a big factor in the molding of personalities and lifetime outlooks. The teaching of values and virtues is very important in the pursuit of integrity, wisdom, and quality of leadership. In confronting the various faces of evil, the well-formed child/adult manages to enact correct decisions aimed at the good life, here in this world and moving towards eternity, to the Maker of life, God. The presence of evil has been there since time immemorial, and scandals can only be overcome by a change of heart…by going back to the innocence of childhood. “Unless you change and become like little children, you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven” (Mt 18:3). The traits of exemplary leadership and governance stem from a heart rooted in obedience to divine truths and attuned to the practice of clean bureaucracy. Earth’s warfare goes beyond guns and bombs to the defeat of the satanic propagators of cruelty, unjust self-gratification and illegal killings of those considered enemies. How well did the Prophet Micah voice God’s message: “what Yahweh requires of you is: to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8).

Let us aim for just, merciful, and humble living in the Word of God, that our acts may guide our co-journeyers on earth to the hereafter, in the heavenly Kingdom. Jesus’ death on the cross and his resurrection has already won for us the inheritance of eternal life, if we too are willing to give up everything to follow him. “Everyone who has given up home, brothers or sisters, father or mother, wife or children or property for my sake will receive many times as much and inherit everlasting life“ (Mt 19:29). Once again we turn to Mary the Queen of heaven and earth whom God exalted for her being ‘his lowly handmaid.’ By her fiat, “Let it be done to me according to your word” (Lk 1:38), she shows us the way to fulfill the divine plan. Let us imitate her disposition with all humility as we challenge ourselves to bring about the change within and around us, remembering that, “for God all things are possible” (Mt 19:26).
