A blanket is a symbol of God’s love; it gives us a feeling of comfort, warmth and security as we sleep. Most of us however take it for granted that we always have blankets. Sadly, however, there are many of our unfortunate brothers and sisters who do not feel the luxury of sleeping with blankets, thus “Warm Blanket for A Cause”, founded by Mrs. Glorie Marie M. Sy, had made it their mission to travel around the country to give away blankets to the needy.

According to Mrs. Sy, “blankets serve as the embrace of God’s love in times of chilly, stormy, darkened nights of our lives… God willing, we will continue to touch people’s lives through Warm Blankets for A Cause.”

They have been to many parts of the country except to Mindanao until last Wednesday, September 13, 2017, when the group visited the “visitorless” inmates of Davao City Jail Annex.

They chose the Annex jail as the first ever recipient of their mission in Mindanao to spread the warmth of God’s love to those inmates who have not been visited by their families or friends since the time of their detention.

These inmates, who do not have money to buy the personal things they need, were each given blankets, personal hygiene kits, food and a copy of the Tagalog version of the booklet “31 Day Devotional: Experience God’s Word” which was authored by Mrs. Sy herself. With Mrs. Sy were Mrs. Florence B. Pagayona, Ms. Khai Bacolod and Mr. Lito Salud.

The visit was coordinated with SJO3 Edwin L. Naidas, Chief Inmate Welfare Development Officer of DCJ Annex and with the Archdiocesan Commission on Prison Welfare. (Marian Carmela Raquel)
