“We may not be able to give 50 sacks of rice but with our ministry we can feed the people with the body of Christ.”

With these words, the Most Rev. Wilfredo Manlapaz, D.D., bishop of Tagum, spoke from his heart before his clergy, delegates of DaDiTaMa quarterly meeting, religious and lay people during his homily at the thanksgiving mass of his 53rd priestly anniversary held at the Queen of Apostles College Seminary in Tagum, December 6, 2017.

“The priesthood is not for the priest but for the Church,” said Manlapaz.

Having served the Diocese of Tagum for the past 31 years, Manlapaz was so grateful for the gift of the priesthood saying: “I cannot but thank the Lord for the innumerable blessings. What a way to thank the Lord with my brother Archbishop, bishops, priests, pastoral workers in DaDiTaMa subregion, the religious and especially the seminarians.”

He challenged the DaDiTaMa subregion’s adoption of Balindog town in Duyog Marawi as our concrete response to the generosity of Jesus as he healed the sick and fed the hungry in the Gospel of that day. He thanked a lady who donated 50 sacks of rice for the said project. After Digos last November, Tagum, Davao and Mati will also do for Duyog Marawi from December, January and February, respectively.

He also gratefully remembered the bishops who ordained him to the priesthood and who consecrated him to the episcopacy. @DCHERALD
