Altar Servers Convention 2018

Altar Servers’ Convention 2018

Altar Servers Convention 2018On the 17th of February 2018, the annual Altar Servers’ Convention will take place. A day where the Altar Servers of different Parishes from 7 vicariates and of other Catholic Schools and Congregations will gather to celebrate the gift of being an Altar Server. There are over 800 delegates expected. This year’s theme for the convention is, “Altar Servers: Nakighiusa sa mga Kaparian ngadto sa Pagkabalaan.” The Altar Servers indeed takes a vital role in not just serving in the Holy Eucharist but also towards the holiness of the community. For their service leads them closer to Jesus, to whom they serve.

Aim: The day of the convention will be filled with fun and activities as well as inspiring talks. It’s an opportunity for our Altar Servers to hear insights from a speaker of the role they take in their parishes. It’s also a day where each participant will have a chance to make new friends from different parishes around our archdiocese who share the same passion in service. They will be inspired, widen their friendship and have fun throughout this convention. Who could ask for more?

The Seminary and the Convention:
The seminarians of the Archdiocese of Davao takes the initiative of being the facilitators of the convention. For not only it is held in St. Francis Xavier Seminary, the archdiocese school for future priest. But also to help young Altar Servers in discerning or would like to know more about being a seminarian and being a priest. Most, or not all seminarians began their vocation from being an altar server, now it’s a privilege for them to be part of the discernment of the Altar Servers from all ages. As St. John Paul II once said, “The service of young men in the Eucharist, is an ore for priestly vocation.”

Truly, indeed, how such a blessing it is that men at a very young age are already serving our Church. We hope and pray for many more. And, hopefully their service will lead them to their primary vocation, which is holiness. For the glory of God and for our Mother Church. Our Altar Servers’ Convention this year will be another memorable one. (Sem. Liege Francis Montejo)
