RIBBON RIDE - Ribbon of Hope Campaign, Davao Doctors Hospital (DDH)

A Ride of Hope for Cancer Patients

Launched last February 4, 2016, the Ribbon of Hope Campaign, commonly known as ROH, is a cancer awareness campaign promoted by the Davao Doctors Hospital (DDH) that aims to raise awareness to the public about Cancer through various activities; to give hope to establish a Cancer Support Group; and to build a shelter called HOME that will accommodate Cancer patients of all ages. Some of ROH activities being done include Christmas Tree of Hope, Light a Candle, and Talk on Cancer.

To mark its second year, the ROH Campaign together with DDH Balik Alay Foundation Inc., successfully held its Ribbon Ride last Sunday, February 4, 2018 in Davao City. With the tagline, “Enjoy the Ride, Share Hope”, Ribbon Ride is a fun-filled biking event that aims to continuously create public awareness and share hope in the fight against cancer.

“Aside from this fun ride culminating the ROH second anniversary, Ribbon Ride is also one in celebrating the World Cancer Day today”, said Garry John Tillo last Sunday. Tillo, Community Relations Officer of DDH, spearheaded the fun ride event along with members from the DDH Community Development Committee and DDH Balik Alay Foundation Inc.

There were a total of 90 professional and amateur bikers from around the city who joined the first-ever Ribbon Ride. Several of them came from various bikers’ associations such as Cycle for Life, Davao Kruiser United (DAKU), and TC-611 (with the most number of participants), just to name a few. Representatives from PhilHealth Regional Office XI and TYK Enterprises also participated during the event. Meanwhile, Monica Ayala, Cycling Ambassador of the Cycle for Life, led the fun ride route together with her co-members and some CTTMO personnel.

Awards were given to Jeff Bayalas, 10 years old, for being the youngest biker to join the fun ride event and Samuel Duhaylungsod, 60 years old, for being the young at heart biker during the event. The FamBam Award was also given to the Sencio Family – RJ Sencio, JP Sencio, and Janille Sencio, for being the only family group to join Ribbon Ride.

Additionally, the event was partnered by a number of well-known local and national companies such as DOLE Philippines Inc., Anflo Management and Investment Corporation (ANFLOCOR), TYK Enterprises, as well as the City Councilor Hon. Ma. Belen Sunga Acosta. Proceeds of the event will go to the funds of the Ribbon of Hope Campaign. The Ribbon Ride organizers are now looking forward to the next year’s fun ride event.
