Parish Laudato Si Garden Launched
After weeks of careful planning, our parish’s garden project came to life on November 14, 2025 as thirty-five (35) Parish Desk for the Care of Creation (PDCC) members, PSA representatives, and dedicated volunteers gathered at the Parish Laudato Si Garden for a day of hands-on work and learning.
The morning began with everyone joining forces to clean and clear the area, laying the groundwork for the garden’s layout that would soon take shape. The heart of the day was a comprehensive lecture and demonstration led by Brod Maxey Atog, a well-known lettuce and plant grower-who guided us through every step of the process.
We learned to prepare nutrient-rich soil media by mixing garden soil, cocopeat, rice hull, CRH, vermicast, and chicken/goat manure. We also transformed recycled plastic containers into functional plant pots, carefully cutting and drilling holes using a soldering iron. With hands and tools at the ready, we dug and constructed raised beds and garden pots, creating the perfect homes for our crops. The highlight came when we transplanted fresh lettuce and bok choy from seeding trays into the newly prepared beds, watching our hard work take root before our eyes.
What made the day truly special was the presence of our parish priest, Rev. Fr. Orlando A. Angelia, whose initiative and inspiration sparked this project. He rolled up his sleeves and got his hands dirty right alongside everyone else, reminding us that the community grows strongest when we work together. By the end of the day, every participant was fully engrossed in the experience, leaving with new skills and a deep sense of satisfaction in knowing we had planted the seeds of something beautiful for our parish.
Our sincere thanks also to our PSAM Coordinator, Brod Joel Corage, for his guidance and support. Brod Boy Maxey Atog for his unselfish technical assistance provided to all PDCC members and all volunteers. (Marichu Mateo Alpas, PDCC Coordinator)
