24th Assumption Parish General Assembly Celebrated

The general assembly of the Assumption Parish was celebrated Dec. 1, 2013 at the Pastoral Center Building. It was opened by a Thanksgiving Mass presided by Fr. Randy Vergara, SSS. More or less 180 participants from the 32 GKKs and some Church organizations attended. As expected reports from different church apostolate highlights the event with comments and recommendations for improvement. One challenge there is to strengthen youth involvement in the church. Hence, as future leaders they need training to enhance their leadership. Likewise succeed the retiring adults who were once active yet now weakened by age and sickness. There’s a lot of legwork to do to send more laborers in the Lord’s vineyard.

What is inspiring from the reports was the Ways and Means and Financial committees report on the materialized projects and improvements of the church. It is note taking that the bayanihan consciousness and generosity of the parishioners are seen. Though poor but they still have given much for the calamity victims in different parts of the country not only recently but even before. It was also reported that not only parishioners were helped but also anybody who come asking for food and medicine provisions, etc. Also accounted were the GKKs affected by the previous flash floods and the fire that left some residents homeless and restless.

Another memorable part was the Parish Priest time where Fr. Felix Elverio, SSS thank the parishioners for their support to the different programs and activities in the parish. He stressed in the participation of the laity in the formation/trainings as weak point basing from the report and how to strengthen it. Hence, when formations are scheduled it seemed there are more speakers than the attendees of the seminar.
Thus, he emphasized that priests just come and go but the church stay with the parishioners and they should make things happen. Then he also apologized for some misunderstanding that happen on issues and policies which can’t be compromised. And a reminder for all to stand as a Christian and Catholic in the midst of challenges. To do things out of love and concern, not only as an obligation. Though the Year of Faith has been culminated yet the real message is to continue being good disciples, not only to celebrate Christ but to share Christ to others. That the vision, mission, and goals of the Assumption Parish as a “caring and Eucharistic community” be handed on to the next generation. Truly the essence of the said “community” be manifested in the daily life of the parishioners as they journey together with Mary, the parish patroness towards holiness in God’s time and place.
