Diocese of Mati’s 1st Liturgical Music Festival: Why We Sing?

November 24, 2024, the Diocese of Mati orchestrated a breathtaking symphony of faith and music. The 1st Liturgical Music Festival, held at the St. Therese Gym, Clergy House, Madang, Mati City, was a token to the diocese’s uplifting spiritual and artistic life.

The festival, spearheaded by the visionary Rev. Fr. Anthony M. Pobar, the diocesan director of liturgical music, brought together talented musicians from various parishes and quasi-parishes.

A highlight of the festival was the performance of Ms. Vanessa Combante’s composition, “Sing to Jesus, Cecilia, sing together as one.” The choir’s rendition of this beautiful piece-filled the air with heavenly sounds, inspiring a sense of unity and devotion among the congregation.

The festival culminated in a solemn Mass presided over by Most Rev. Abel C. Apigo, D.D., Bishop of Mati, who emphasized the touching connection between music and worship. “Why we sing? We sing, we praise twice when we attend in the liturgy,” Bishop Abel stated, highlighting the power of music to elevate our spiritual experiences.

As the echoes of the final notes faded, the Diocese of Mati’s inaugural Liturgical Music Festival left an enduring legacy. It was a celebration of faith, culture, and community, a reminder that music has the power to transcend boundaries and touch souls. (Hannah Erica Montera)
