Public Bible Reading 2025 at Rizal Park, Davao City

Voices of Faith: Public Bible Reading 2025

In line with the celebration of the National Bible Month 2025, a Public Bible Reading and Listening Fellowship was conducted at Rizal Park, Davao City last January 31, 2025. The Archdiocesan Bible Apostolate of Davao (ABAD) together with the pastors and representatives from the different Christian denominations spearheaded the said event with the support from the City Government of Davao. This year’s theme is: “God’s Word, Source of H.O.P.E: Harmony, Obedience, Peace and Empowerment” which is derived from the Jubilee Year theme: “Pilgrims of Hope.”

The reading formally started at 9:45 am with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, followed by the Dabawenyo Song and the Opening Prayer by Mr. Domingo Alob from ABAD. Mr. Concordio Pondias gave the Opening Remarks expressing that this Public Bible Reading and Listening Fellowship is an opportunity to encounter and to proclaim the Word of God to the Davaoeños. Pastor Rueland Baloy gave the introduction and background of the National Bible Month Celebration.

The message from Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, Vice Mayor Atty. J Melchor Quitain and from Hon. Pilar Braga, the proponent of the Bible Month Ordinance were read to the public. Mayor Baste highlighted the importance of the Bible as the foundation of Christian faith, hope and inspiration to remind people to live according to God’s teaching. Vice Mayor Quitain shared the importance of the teachings found in the Scriptures for our daily lives. Councilor Braga encouraged everyone to continue serving God and its people with the help of regularly reflecting on God’s Word.

At 10:05 am, the readings of the scripture started by first giving emphasis on this year’s theme verses: Lamentations 3:21-26 and Roman 15:4. The book of Deuteronomy was read to the public by the personnel from DXFE The Good News Radio. Each chapter was proclaimed continuously by different people such as the representatives from the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO), City Human Resource Management Office (HRMO), other members from the different Christian denominations, religious sisters, lectors, GKK Servant Leaders from the different parishes of the Archdiocese of Davao.

People of different ages and gender ranging from the youth, adult and elderly gathered and sat at the chairs inside Rizal Park to listen to the Word of God. The City Government of Davao also gave out free lugaw and lomi and the National Bible Month (NBM) Team also prepared coffee, biscuits and water to the audience.

The Book of Revelation was the last book to be proclaimed and was read by the NBM Team and Hon. Atty. Diosdado Angelo Mahipus Jr. To close the event, a benediction followed with each Christian denomination representative thanking the Lord for the opportunity and the success of the event. They also asked the Lord to continue to bless the people of Davao especially the Youth.

This event is a symbol of unity as one big family of Christian believers and at 8:05 in the evening, the Public Bible Reading and Listening ended peacefully with each person filled with the flame of hope to carry on the mission of Proclaiming God’s Word. (Allyza Tabigue)
