Empowering Digital Missionary Disciples

Almost anybody can claim today that he or she is empowered digitally. Anytime, as long as one has an internet connection, can already transmit information. But the question is, what kind of information is it? What is the intended influence of such a transmission of information?

In his address to representatives of the media last May 12, Pope Leo XIV emphasizes: “As you know, communication is not only the transmission of information, but it is also the creation of a culture, of human and digital environments that become spaces for dialogue and discussion.” True empowerment means allowing people who use the power of media to create opportunities for dialogue and discussion. This dialogue and discussion should lead to peace.

If only Jesus lived in our time, He could have used the present media. It is then our mission as His disciples to continue spreading the good news of God’s love no matter how difficult it is at times. We must use our power, we must use the power of the digital world to make us as one people of God.
