Ascension Sunday: A Call for Mission and Evangelization
June 1 is the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord, the 40th day after Easter Sunday. The Lord went back to heaven to prepare a place for us. This only means that heaven is our ultimate home. This also reminds us of the continuing love of God, and that all our efforts, our activities should be geared towards this heavenly goal. The surety of this goal gives us hope. The key is discernment. Discernment requires a prayerful life, to stay close to Jesus, so that all the decisions we make will conform to His will.
Although He left us physically, He remains with us through the Holy Spirit, and is also present in all the tabernacles in the world. He never really left us. He has been waiting for us for two thousand years! How many times have we visited Him? Do we spend some time even for a few minutes in the adoration chapels?
Finally, when He ascended to heaven, we were all commissioned to spread the Gospel. God wants to save all souls and He enlisted all the baptized to invite everyone to Him through words and deeds.
The Blessed Mother will accompany us in our mission just as she accompanied her Son in His mission to die for us out of His love. Let us go to her.
