Climate Change Delay, We Must! (Part 1 of 2)

God saw all what he had made, and it was very good. (Genesis 1: 31)

Init kayo!
Kulba, baha naman!
Ha? Nag landslide?
Wildfire naman sa California, sa Benguet?
Walang ani tungud sa El Nino ug La Nina!
Daghang isdang namatay!
Ano? Nagabagyo na ang Davao?

Situationer. These are the events which we have experienced for several decades already. All of these caused death, injury, loss of property, more poverty, anxiety, mental health problems, much drain of government resources and many more. We had these before several decades ago but they had become more frequent now. As of the news on May 22, several provinces in BARMM were flooded causing several deaths and many thousands houses affected with several thousands in evacuation centers. We shall have more of these and worse.

Climate change is the global climate pattern from mid to late 20th century caused by increased atmospheric greenhouse gases caused mainly from the use of fossil fuels.

What are these greenhouse gases? These are gases in the earth’s atmosphere that trap heat, preventing it from escaping into space, thus leading to global warming. Since the gases such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and many more are accumulating in the atmosphere for decades already, our temperature keep rising

Causes of climate change

  1. Burning of fossil fuel. Fossil fuel are coal, petroleum and natural gas which are extracted from the crust of the earth formed by living organisms geological ages ago. Their extraction up to their use emits greenhouse gases.
  2. Deforestation. The wide destruction of forest has contributed much and at the same time reduced the supply of oxygen.
  3. Industrial activities. The industrial revolution which resulted to industrial activities of factories and industrial plants worldwide has done so much harm.
  4. Agricultural practices.
  5. Urbanization and land use change. Building, roads and streets spreading out and taking over the areas once covered by vegetation added much to heating the earth.
  6. Solar activity. There is regular solar flare which adds to the heat.
  7. Volcanic eruption. The ashes and other gaseous and solid particles spewed during eruption add to the greenhouse gases.
  8. Positive feedback loop such as the melting of the icebergs.
  9. Particulate pollution such as aerosols.
  10. Water vapor.
  11. Plastic products. The land and ocean are filled with billions of tons of plastic products which can not be decayed. They are so harmful in many aspects, most especially because they cover the surface of the land and the sea preventing heat to escape.
