Corpus Christi

On the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, Corpus Christi, we are reminded of the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. “It is a presence in the fullest sense: that is to say, it is a substantial presence by which Christ, God and man, makes himself wholly and entirely present” (CCC 1374). A quote is attributed to Flannery O’Connor, “If the Eucharist is just a symbol, then to hell with it.”

Let us also pay tribute not only to our priests, from whose hands, the bread and wine offered is made into the Body and Blood of Christ, but also to our Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion in our parishes. They are the lay collaborators, who in the shortage of priests, are able to bring the Holy Communion to our sick brothers and sisters. We also have some Pangulo sa Liturhiya in some parts of our local churches who are allowed to bring the consecrated host for the faithful in far flung barangays to take Holy Communion on Sundays in their GKKs.

As the summit and fount of Christian life, let us make it our sense of completion to go to Mass especially on Sundays. As St. Leonard would say, it is better for us to celebrate the Mass while still alive than to have many Masses offered for us when we die.
