Diocese of Mati ordains Reverend Bryan Balansag Bermejo as New Priest
BAGANGA, DAVAO ORIENTAL Reverend Bryan Balansag Bermejo, DCM was ordained to the sacred priesthood last Thursday, June 5, 2025, by the Most Reverend Abel C. Apigo, D.D., Bishop of Mati, during a solemn ceremony held at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Lambajon.
The ordination was graced by the presence of over thirty diocesan priests who concelebrated the Mass, alongside family members, friends, parishioners, and esteemed representatives from the local government, including the Governor, Vice Governor, municipal mayors, and councilors.
In his homily, Bishop Apigo underscored the essential duties of priests in the mission of evangelization. He quoted the late Pope Francis’ words which said, “Evangelizers must take on the smell of te sheep, and the sheep are willing to listen to their voice.” The Bishop further invoked the intercession of St. John Vianney, the patron saint of priests, affirming, “The priesthood is the love of the heart of jesus.”
Bishop Apigo offered three poignant reminders to the newly ordained priest: First, “Bantayan mo ang katawhan na gitugyan ko kanimo”; second, “Giumol aron m himong magbalantay og mag-atiman sa mga katawhan sa Diyos”; and third, “Ang pagkapari isa gayud ka dako nga responsibilidad
Rev. Bermejo now Rev. Fr. Bryan Balansag Bermejo, DCM exhibited profound emotion during the rites, attributing his feelings to a deep sense of gratitude after overcoming significant vocational challenges. The congregation responded with sustained applause as the diocesan clergy extended their formal greetings.
Fr. Bermejo will serve as the Parochial Vicar of San Nicolas de Tolentino Cathedral and will also take on the role of Directorship for the Episcopal Commission on Social Communications in the Diocese of Mati.
As Rev. Fr. Bryan Bal nsag Bermejo, DCM, embarks on his sacred assignment, he carries with him decades of formation.
His ordination marks a significant milestone in the history of Lambajon, as he becomes the first native son to answer the priestly call in fifteen years.
