Living the Mission, Guided by the Risen Christ

With joyous hearts, the Ascension of the Lord Parish, GSIS Heights, Matina, marked its 23rd Parochial Fiesta last June 1, 2025, coinciding with the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. The high point of the celebration was the 7:00 AM Pontifical Mass presided over by Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., Archbishop of Davao, filling the parish grounds with the warmth of faith, gratitude, and renewed mission. The outgoing parish priest Rev. Fr. Zenon Ampong, incoming Parochial Vicar Rev. Francis Flores and resident priest Rev. Fr. Leonie España along with the different religious priests from the Society of Divine Vocations (SDV) concelebrated the Holy Mass.

Abp. Valles shared the uniqueness of their parish fiesta, because their patron is not a saint but instead it refers to the 2nd Glorious Mystery. Their fiesta is also celebrated not only in their parish but in the whole Catholic Church. He also shared three takeaways and reminders to the parishioners: Am I deeply joyful, deeply hopeful, and deeply day after day, a missionary proclaiming the Good News of Jesus?

Fr. Zenon also thanked the archbishop with the concelebrating clergy for joining them in their 23rd Parochial Fiesta Celebration. He also thanked the GKK Servant Leaders from the different ministries, the parish pastoral council, the servers and parishioners for their unwavering dedication and support on the different events and activities in line with their fiesta celebration.

When the Risen Christ ascended, He did not leave us. He lifted us. The Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord is not about distance, but about the mission now entrusted to us. The Ascension of the Lord Parish, now 23 years strong, is a living testimony of people who continue that mission. As we reflect on the mystery of the Ascension may we see it not as a farewell, but as a commissioning moment for the Church to go to all corners of the earth and proclaim the Gospel to all.

We like to thank all GKK and GSL under the Ascension of the Lord Parish. (Allyza Hope J. Tabigue)
