One Bread, One Body: 2nd Archdiocesan EMHC Convention

On July 5, 2025, the St. Francis Xavier Regional Major Seminary (REMASE) of Mindanao became the heart of communion and service, as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) from across the archdiocese gathered for the 2nd Archdiocesan EMHC Convention. With the theme: “Pilgrims of Hope” the convention united EMHCs in reflection, fellowship, and renewal.

The day began with the spirit of anticipation as participants arrived as early as 7:00 AM, welcomed with warmth and hospitality during the registration and acknowledgment of parishes. Bro. Guillermo Olden opened the event with a solemn invocation, followed by an uplifting Welcome Address by Fr. Michael Ondras Jr., the Director of the Archdiocesan Liturgical Center (ALC) setting the tone for a day anchored in gratitude and spiritual unity.

At 8:30 AM, the highlight of the morning unfolded with the celebration of the Holy Mass, presided over by Rev. Msgr. Paul Cuison together with Fr. Ondras and Fr. Leif Simbajon, allowing all ministers to be nourished spiritually as they returned to the source and summit of their ministry—the Eucharist. After the Mass, parishes shared light snacks in a short break, continuing the fellowship in a relaxed setting.

The morning continued with the talk, from Rev. Fr. Edilberto “Loloy” R. Mahinay, STL. He was introduced by Bro. James Pen, Fr. Loloy’s talk served as a profound reminder of the sacred responsibility entrusted to EMHCs. Through his reflections, ministers were inspired to live their calling with renewed reverence, humility, and devotion as they journey and continue their extraordinary mission with hope.

As the clock struck 12:00 noon, the convention drew to a close with closing remarks by Bro. James Pen, EMHC President of the Archdiocese of Davao. With heartfelt words, he expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the event, especially the core group, committee members, and parish coordinators who worked tirelessly behind the scenes.

Following the formal closing was a brief acknowledgment and photo opportunity, capturing the spirit of unity that permeated the day. The atmosphere transitioned into one of joyful fellowship as the participants shared a hearty lunch, concluding the event with smiles, laughter, and the familiar refrain of “home sweet home.”

More than a gathering, the 2nd Archdiocesan EMHC Convention was a sacred encounter. It was an affirmation of faith, service, and the shared mission of bringing Christ to others. As ministers return to their parishes, they carry not only memories of the day but also the renewed commitment to their calling, strengthened by the grace of community and communion. In a world hungering for God’s presence, these ministers go forth—carrying the Bread of Life with hands that serve and hearts that believe in the hope of the Risen Lord. (Allyza Hope J. Tabigue)
