HCDC at 74: A Week-long Celebration of Hope, Faith, and Community in Action

The campus of Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) is alive with vibrant energy this week as it commemorates its 74th Foundation Anniversary. Running from September 9 to 14, 2025, the celebration is guided by the theme, “HCDC AT 74: INSPIRED AND INSPIRING COMMUNITY AS PILGRIMS AND ICONS OF HOPE,” transforming the week into a dynamic pilgrimage of faith, service, and fellowship for the entire HCDC community.

The festivities are now in full swing, having kicked off on Tuesday, September 9, under the banner of “Hope in Inclusivity.” The day was marked by a showcase of innovation with a “Project Pitching” event at the Cross Theater, while the HCDC Gym and Ground buzzed with camaraderie during an afternoon Zumba, traditional “Larong Pinoy,” and wellness sports.

Wednesday continued the journey with “Hope in Beatitudes,” focusing on finding joy through challenges. The day underscored HCDC’s commitment to social responsibility with the launching of its Environmental Stewardship Project H.O.P.E means Helping Others Promoting Environment and a “Tinubdan: The afternoon featured an insightful “Talk on SDG” (Sustainable Development Goals), further cementing the institution’s dedication to meaningful engagement and commemorating the 10th Years of Laudato Si, an encyclical Pope Francis gifted to the world a decade ago.

Today, September 11, 2025 the celebration embraces the theme of “Hope in Love: Living Out the Gospel of Mercy.” The day began with the traditional Novena Mass at the HCDC Gym. The HCDC Ground is now a hub of activity with the official “Opening and Blessing of the Bazaar” at 10:00 AM. A highlight of the day is the “Tri-people Day Opening Program” in the Function Hall, celebrating the diverse cultures of Mindanao. The afternoon promises a lively exchange of ideas with a debate hosted by the Philosophy and Debate Society, followed by a rich cultural immersion featuring exhibits, inter-religious conversations, games, and music.

The week is set to finish strong with more purpose-driven activities. On Friday, the focus is on giving back with “Hope in Self-Reflection,” as the community participates in a blood drive and a CPR Caravan. Saturday’s theme is “Hope in Authenticity,” featuring “ABLAZE,” a youth event that connects students to the school’s mission. The entire celebration wraps up on Sunday, September 14, for the “Feast of the Triumph of the Cross,” where a final Mass and a shared lunch will mark a fitting end to an inspiring week. (Jeralyn A.
