Archdiocese of Davao Joins National Day of Prayer and Public Repentance
The Archdiocese of Davao, under the leadership of Archbishop Romulo G. Valles, D.D., has joined the nationwide observance of the National Day of Prayer and Public Repentance, as called for by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP). The observance was officially launched on October 7, 2025, coinciding with the Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary.
In Circular No. 45, Series of 2025, issued on October 4, Archbishop Valles urged all clergy, religious communities, GKKs (Gagmay’ng Kristohanong Katilingban), families, Catholic schools, and the faithful within the Archdiocese to participate in this national act of supplication.
“All parishes, chapels, religious communities, GKKs, Catholic schools, and families are encouraged to pray A National Cry for Mercy and Renewal on that day and in the succeeding Sundays until the Feast of Christ the King,” the Archbishop stated. The designated Sundays include October 7, 12, 19, 26, and November 2, 9, 16, and 23, the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe.
As part of the observance, Archbishop Valles instructed that the special prayer be recited within the Mass in place of the General Intercessions, with the faithful standing in reverence. The same prayer is also encouraged to be said in homes, schools, and other Church organizations as a continuous plea for God’s mercy and national renewal.
“We ask our GKKs, families, schools, and Church groups and organizations to pray this together regularly,” the Archbishop wrote, emphasizing unity in prayer. He added, “Let us unite in prayer, asking the Lord, through the intercession of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, to heal and renew our nation with his grace and love.”
Attached to the circular are the official English and Cebuano texts of the prayer provided by the CBCP.
In his closing message, Archbishop Valles expressed his continued devotion and hope that the faithful of Davao will respond with faith and fervor to this national call for repentance and renewal.
