Mary: Journeying Pilgrims Source of Hope

St. Mary of the Perpetual Rosary Parish in Buhangin, Davao City, joyfully celebrated its 39th Parochial Fiesta, a vibrant expression of faith and community rooted in the theme: “Santa María sa Kanunayng Pagrosaryo, Sumbanan sa Paglaum sa Katawhang Nagapanaw niining Tuig sa Hubileyo.” This year’s celebration is made even more meaningful as it coincides with the Month of the Holy Rosary and the Jubilee Year of Hope 2025, inviting the faithful to renew their devotion and deepen their journey of faith.

The celebration began with the GKK Marian Pilgrimage Visit, where the pilgrim image of the Blessed Virgin Mary traveled across various GKK chapels, allowing communities to gather in prayer and reflection. From September 24 to October 3, the image visited different zones, strengthening the bond of faith among parishioners as they offered prayers and novena Masses in honor of the Blessed Mother.

A highlight of the fiesta is the nine-day novena Masses from September 26 to October 4, with each day dedicated to a unique theme reflecting Mary as a model of faith and discipleship. The daily prayers, rosary, and Eucharistic celebrations draw the community closer to Mary’s example, fostering hope and unity. Various groups and organizations take part as mass presiders and sponsors, showing the collective spirit of the parish.

The festivities also feature special nightly events that bring together the youth, GKK communities, beneficiaries, and parishioners for fellowship and celebration. Last September 28 was the Youth Night, the GKK Night was held last September 29, the beneficiaries’ night last October 1, and the PARECO Night last October 3. The much-awaited parochial procession on October 4 at 3:30 p.m. gathered the faithful from different zones, marching together in prayer and thanksgiving along the streets of Buhangin.

The Parochial fiesta Mass on October 5 with the Pontifical Mass presided by Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., Archbishop of Davao at 10:00 a.m. followed by the Fiesta Program held at the Parish Gym at 11:45 am to 3:00 pm.

As the Church enters the Jubilee Year of Hope, this fiesta becomes more than just a tradition—it is a pilgrimage of hearts. By praying the rosary, joining the novena, and participating in the Marian pilgrimage, the faithful of St. Mary Parish are invited to embrace Mary as their model of hope and faith. The celebration echoes a powerful message: in walking with Mary, the community journeys together toward a future filled with God’s promise.
