Our Lady of the Assumption

cartoon Our Lady AssumptionMary, Our Lady of the Assumption, was born free of original sin. Her answer to the angel “may it be done unto me according to thy word” was a faith borne from a critical and wise mind in constant communion with her God.

While she was pregnant, she visited and served Elizabeth. While she cared for her son, she was wondering but trusting in God. She was with Jesus on the cross. She proclaimed with His disciples His teachings especially for the poor and the oppressed.

Such a woman of virtues deserved the best: her Assumption into heaven, body and soul.

Our Lady of the Assumption is the patron of the Daughters of Mary of the Assumption (FMAs), the Missionaries of the Assumption (MAs), the Assumption College of Davao (ACD) and the Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in F. Torres Street.

Assumption College of Davao lived out its interpretation of integral evangelization for four decades already which many found radical. Further inspired by Pope Francis’ challenge to the youth in Poland on social activism, the Assumptionist is characterized by the following Christian qualities: faith motivated; hopeful, joyful and simple, integrally-developed; socially concerned and involved; and critical-thinker.

We are challenged to be Mary-like in social activism in this perilous world of Christians.

Our Lady of the Assumption showed us the way.
