Mother Mary

Blessed Mothers’ Day

Mother MaryIt is a given that on this special day, mothers will get a loving note/text/picture, flowers, gift, food treat, or a trip from their children and husbands — with longer kisses and tighter hugs to boot.

These are some practices of giving back to Mama, her years of loving care for the family.

In truth, a mother’s care never stops, and even grows better as grandchildren come.

Among all the ways that a mother shows her care, only interceding for her loved ones extends beyond death. Mothers are forever intercessors. Some attend extra masses for the Sunday masses missed by their children, trusting in GOD’s mercy.

Mothers, especially the seniors, also need intercessors.

Maybe, not just “paying back”, but “praying back” NOW for our mothers is as good a time as any, for children of all ages.

Less commercial, but surely pleasing to a mother, would be — being one in prayer with her in a holy mass, visits to the blessed sacrament, rosaries, novenas.

And novena masses will certainly relieve the soul of a departed mother.

In life and in death, mothers need prayer partners. The time to gift them with these is not just on mothers’ day, but everyday.

One, two, ready – kneel!

Then, like Mary, every mother will sing “my soul magnifies the LORD, and my spirit rejoices in GOD, my SAVIOUR, for HE has looked with favour on the lowliness of HIS servant (Luke 1:41-48)”.
