Corpus Christi Sunday

Once again the Church is celebrating this Sunday June 3 the solemn feast of Corpus Christi, Latin for The Body of Christ. Most holy of all the Sacraments it is the most revered and the most adored because it is The Real Presence of Jesus Christ, True God and True Man.

By the powerful words, “This is My Body, This is My Blood”, which only validly ordained priests are privileged to pronounce, with the help of the Holy Spirit, the Risen Lord Jesus replaces the substance of bread and wine with His Body and Blood. This is, according to Him, real food and real drink. Consuming Him in faith we will never get hungry and thirsty, and more, we become what we consume. This is both a mystery of transubstantiation and transformation.

In this Year of the Clergy and Consecrated Persons, priests – diocesan and religious – are challenged to be models of the spirituality of Corpus Christi, to help and be helped, in the promotion of the correct knowledge and personal experience of Corpus Christi.
