God is the source of all forms of communications
The 1st World Communications Day was celebrated on Sunday of May 7, 1967 and the only worldwide celebration called for by the Second Vatican Council of which most Catholic countries would celebrate on a Sunday before Pentecost.
This year the theme is “We are members of one another: from social network communities to the human communities”.
Communities and Communication play a crucial role in the survival of Christian values which has become a rare commodity due to the presence of social networking sites or social media. The Church would want to emphasize that today’s communication should not be based on what is the fad and frenzy in the social network communities but on what is true, sensitive, respectful, and caring communication for human communities.
After all, the human members of both worlds — the virtual and the real — live in a community where there is a God who is the giver, owner, and source of all forms of communication. Therefore, let our communications in the virtual world reflect on what is true in the human world and not the other way around.
