World Mission Sunday

world mission sunday editorialToday is World Mission Sunday. This is otherwise known as Sunday for Cultures. We encourage all members of the Church to take part in the mission of the Church to spread the Good News in whatever way they can.

Cardinal Charles Maung Bo of Myanmar said, “The Eucharist of the devotee is confined to the clean, decorated altars of the church. The Eucharist of the disciple continues with the streets as altar.”

Although not everyone may have the gift of going to far away places to preach the Word of God, all faithful are gifted with the mission to witness the faith through his or her ordinary daily living – in the family, community or work place.

“Mission is a constant stimulus not to remain mired in mediocrity but to continue growing… It is a legitimate way of living the faith, a way of feeling part of the Church and a manner of being missionaries; it brings with itself the grace of being a missionary, of coming out of oneself and setting out on pilgrimage.” (Pope Francis).
