“I was in prison and you came to me”
The Catholic Church is encouraging everyone to reflect and pray for prisoners and their families especially during Prison Sunday. That is why there is a second collection in all the Holy Mass celebrated during this special Sunday dedicated to all prisoners to support the ministry.
It is because of the belief of the Church that those convicted prisoners and their families are always considered as the neglected or the marginalized sector in our society, past and present. That is why Jesus is always inviting us with His words: “I was in prison and you came to me.” (Matthew 25:36).
How we treat the marginalized and the powerless is what matters to our Lord. And the prisoners are seen as the “least” in our modern society. If we cannot visit them, we can at least volunteer to help or assist the prison ministry or make some cash donations or support the second collection during the Holy Mass this Prison Awareness Sunday.
