The Obedient King

As we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King, we are reminded of our aspiration to obey Him. The yearly liturgical cycle helps us live in His ways.

While the king that this world experiences ought to be followed because of fear, Jesus’ kingship draws out love. Those who love Jesus are free of fear. Those who see Jesus’ kingship learn to follow in His life of love.

While the kings of this world exercise force, Jesus’ kingship is powerless except the power of selfless giving. Those who see His kingship follow the path of humility and service. It is they who find peace and contentment in dying for others.

While many in this world are sometimes unaware that they have followed the fad in order to be accepted and approved, the kingship of Jesus makes us realize that we are members of the community of those whom He saved through His sacrifice on the cross. We need not feel outcast but must feel we belong to those in communion with Him especially in the Eucharist.

Let us do away from following the rule of fear, force and fad. We rather obey the rule of love, selflessness and communion.
