Golden Jubilee: GKK Sto. Niño Upper Ilang Celebrates 50 Years of Faith and Unity

The GKK Sto. Niño Upper Ilang celebrated its 50th Golden Fiesta with a momentous event that highlighted the community’s resilience, devotion, and unity. This significant milestone gathered parishioners, servant leaders, devotees and guests to honor five decades of spiritual growth and service. Central to the celebration were the Eucharistic Mass, the blessing of the newly completed sanctuary and altar, and vibrant cultural presentations, making the event both solemn and festive.

The day began with a Eucharistic Mass at 8:00 AM, presided over by Rev. Monsignor Paul Cuison, the Vicar General and Economus of the Archdiocese of Davao, concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Jun Gimeno, parish priest of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Tibungco. During his homily, Monsignor Cuison reflected on the enduring grace of God in the life of the GKK community and commended their efforts to build a legacy of faith. The choir, with its harmonious melodies, added to the solemnity of the liturgical celebration, lifting the spirits of everyone present.

Monsignor Cuison highlighted the collective effort of the community in accomplishing and fully finishing the new altar. He acknowledged the generosity and dedication of every parishioner, servant leader, and benefactor who contributed to this milestone. Monsignor Cuison noted that the blessing of the altar and sanctuary was not only a significant part of the fiesta celebration but also the crowning fruit of the GKK’s 50-year journey. The new altar, he said, stands as a testament to the faith and unity that has defined the GKK Sto. Niño Upper Ilang over the decades.

Jun Cutanda, the Pangulo sa Katilingban (PSK) of GKK Sto. Niño Upper Ilang, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all members, donors, and benefactors who made the completion of the altar possible. In his speech, he emotionally recalled the trials and challenges the community faced along the way. He emphasized that the finished sanctuary was a tangible reminder of their faith and determination, achieved through the collaborative efforts of all.

After the Mass, the Sinulog dance, performed by the youth and servant leaders of the GKK, was presented to the community. This traditional dance, introduced by Maximo Torres decades ago, has since become a cherished part of the GKK’s annual fiesta celebrations. The lively and colorful performance was a tribute to the Sto. Niño, symbolizing gratitude, hope, and devotion. The rhythmic beats and heartfelt choreography captivated the audience, reminding everyone of the cultural and spiritual identity of the GKK.

The journey of devotion to the Sto. Niño in Upper Ilang began with the late Mrs. Manila, who introduced this spiritual tradition to the community. Her love for the Sto. Niño inspired the establishment of the GKK and its fiesta celebrations. Over the years, the devotion deepened, bringing the community closer together. The Sinulog dance, introduced by Maximo Torres, became a vibrant expression of this devotion, blending faith and culture in a uniquely meaningful way.

The 50th Golden Fiesta Celebration was a powerful testament to the GKK Sto. Niño Upper Ilang’s steadfast faith and dedication. From the Eucharistic celebration and the blessing of the new sanctuary to the vibrant Sinulog dance and heartfelt expressions of gratitude, the event underscored the enduring spirit of the community. As the GKK moves forward, the lessons and inspiration drawn from this golden jubilee will continue to guide its mission for the years to come.
