The Confraternity of St. Joseph
The Confraternity of St. Joseph is a vibrant and devoted community within the Catholic Church, centered on the powerful intercession and example of St. Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus Christ. Rooted in faith, service, and devotion, this confraternity invites members to unite in prayer and deepen their commitment to living out the virtues exemplified by St. Joseph—humility, obedience, and selfless love. As a model of fatherhood, protector of families, and patron of workers, St. Joseph continues to inspire believers to lead lives of faithfulness, care, and dedication.
Founded during the Year of St. Joseph (December 8, 2020 – December 8, 2021), the confraternity is dedicated to honoring St. Joseph’s virtues—his humility, faith, obedience, and love for family. Through prayer, devotion, and acts of charity, members strive to embody these values in their daily lives.
Since its establishment, the confraternity has grown steadily. In 2021, there were seven batches of members, followed by three batches in 2022 and two in 2023. The confraternity received formal approval and was officially installed on May 1, 2023, by Most Rev. Archbishop Romulo G. Valles, D.D., Archbishop of Davao.
Beyond prayer and devotion, the Confraternity of St. Joseph emphasizes charitable works. Members are encouraged to engage in corporal works of mercy, actively reaching out to those in need. One of its most notable initiatives is the Tabang Pabalay project, which provides homes for underprivileged families.
In May 2022, the confraternity completed its first Tabang Pabalay, blessing and turning over a newly built home to a family in the GKK MOPH Sasa Area 5. The following year, in 2023, two more families benefited from the project, receiving homes in MOPH Lanang and Birhen sa Fatima Km 11.
Additionally, in 2023, the confraternity launched the Hot Meals on Wheels (HMW) program, a feeding initiative aimed at alleviating hunger in the community. Every Tuesday and Thursday, members distribute meals to individuals and families in need, embodying the compassionate heart of St. Joseph through service and generosity.
Since its inception, the Confraternity of St. Joseph has also been holding for St. Joseph every Thursday at 6:00 AM a Bisayan Votive Mass and 5:30 PM English Votive Mass. These Masses provide members with an opportunity to gather in devotion, seeking St. Joseph’s intercession and guidance in their spiritual journeys.
The Confraternity of St. Joseph is more than just a community of faith—it is a living testament to the virtues of St. Joseph and a beacon of hope for those who seek to serve others in Christ’s name. Through prayer, devotion, and charitable works, the confraternity continues its mission of honoring St. Joseph by building a Christian life rooted in faith, humility, and love. Whether by providing homes to families, serving meals to the hungry, or gathering in prayer, the confraternity remains a vital part of the Church and the local community. (Sophia Erika B.
