Moms as Shepherds

Mothers are a special breed, set apart for GOD’s purpose. Created with a womb, mothers have become the “keepers” of GOD’s life, GOD’s vessels for HIS unborn children.

Entrusted with such grace, all mothers, like Mary, have been given gifts appropriate to the role (CCC 490); are called to protect GOD’s children at the moment of conception (CCC 2270); and are also called to be the first teachers of faith, of witnessing, and of love of GOD (CCC 1666).

But motherhood does not start there. Lives of saints attest to this.

Children start learning holiness from the womb.

Consecrated to JESUS and Mary, lifted up in Holy Mass, prayed over, sung to with praise songs, given a share of the merits of Holy Communion, are doses of holiness before birth.

A mother as a shepherd starts with her personal relationship with GOD. Molding GOD-fearing children is a fruit of her being one herself. When she is trustful, faithful, prayerful, obedient, loving to GOD, so would her children be, sooner or later. Because GOD never fails those who trust in HIM.

To have holy children, one has to aspire to be a holy mother first.

Mother Mary is the model for all mothers, for all time.

Mother Mary, please pray for us.
