Most Rev. Medil S. Aseo, D.D. reappointed member of CBCP Episcopal Commission on the Laity
Tagum City, Philippines — Bishop Medil S. Aseo, prelate of the Diocese of Tagum, has been reappointed as a member of the Episcopal Commission on the Laity (ECLA) of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), reaffirming his ongoing role in fostering lay engagement in the Catholic Church across the country. The announcement of the bishop-members was released by the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas, the national council of lay leaders.
The ECLA is currently chaired by Bishop Severo C. Caermare of Dipolog, with Bishop Rufino Sescon, Jr. of Balanga serving as vice-chairman. Other members include Archbishop Martin Jumoad of Ozamis and Bishop Ruben Labajo of Prosperidad. Bishop Aseo’s inclusion reflects his continued collaboration with fellow bishops to strengthen ties between the hierarchy and lay faithful.
Bishop Caermare assumed leadership of the commission in December 2023 following the death of Bishop Enrique V. Macaraeg, underscoring the national bishops’ commitment to promoting lay apostolate initiatives throughout the Church in the Philippines.
The CBCP Commission on the Laity works to study and promote an effective lay apostolate in accordance with the teachings of the Second Vatican Council, assisting in the establishment of pastoral councils, coordinating lay activity, and nurturing communication with lay movements and organizations nationwide.
With his reappointment, Bishop Aseo will continue to contribute his pastoral experience to the commission’s mission of empowering lay Catholics to live out their baptismal call in evangelization, service, and community life within the Church and society. (Ditascom)
