Four Filipino Deacons Ordained Priests During SDV Philippines’ 30th Anniversary Celebration

Society of Divine Vocations marked a milestone as four Filipino deacons were ordained to the Sacred Order of Presbyters during a solemn Eucharistic celebration held at San Isidro Labrador Parish in Catalunan Grande, Davao City.

The ordination ceremony, celebrated on May 9, 2026, coincided with the congregation’s 30 years of missionary presence in the Philippines, making the occasion a double celebration of faith, vocation, and service.

The four Vocationist deacons ordained to the priesthood were Rev. Carlo Rey Maria of the Divine Mercy Panaguition, SDV; Rev. Romeo III of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Soria, SDV; Rev. Clark Maria of the Holy Eucharist Diputado, SDV; and Rev. Eric Maria of the Divine Mercy Lastima, SDV.

They were formally ordained through the laying on of hands and the consecratory prayer led by Most Rev. Edgar Moreira da Cunha, SDV, D.D., Bishop of Fall River, USA.

Family members, fellow religious, parishioners, and guests gathered to witness the sacred rite and to support the newly ordained priests as they begin their ministry in the Church.

In his homily, Bishop da Cunha reminded the newly ordained priests that the priesthood is not merely a profession, but a sacred calling from God.

“Priesthood is not a career; it is a response to God’s calling,” the bishop emphasized.

He also encouraged the ordinands to become living witnesses of the Gospel through the example of their lives, reminding them that their actions often speak louder than words.

“Remember that you preach more with your own life than with your words.”

Quoting Saint Francis of Assisi, the Bishop reflected on the essence of authentic Christian witness.

“Preach the Gospel always, and if necessary, use words.”

The bishop further highlighted the deeper mission of the Society of Divine Vocations, saying that its ultimate purpose is “to direct and lead all its members and all people to a perfect union with the Divine Persons.” He reminded the faithful that this remains the heart of the congregation’s mission and apostolate.

The Eucharistic celebration was marked by solemn prayers, sacred hymns, and moments of profound joy as the faithful witnessed the sacred rite of ordination. The newly ordained priests received their priestly vestments and joined in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist for the first time as priests.

As the celebration concluded, the community offered prayers for the newly ordained priests, asking that they may remain faithful servants and shepherds after the heart of Christ, dedicated to guiding people closer to God through their ministry and witness of life.
