San Alfonso Ma Liguori Parish Santacruzan 2026

Devotion over Disruption: SAP Sagala sa Parokya & GKK Day 2026

Raindrops fell from dark skies as colorful arks and gowns moved through the streets of Mandug, Davao City, last Sunday, May 31, 2026.

Despite the poor weather condition, participants from the different 40 Gagmayng Kristohanong Katilingban (GKKs) still pushed through with this year’s Sagala sa Parokya – Santacruzan, a colorful and faith-filled procession, turning this rainy season into a spectacular display of faith, tradition, dedication and community spirit.

Held at San Alfonso Ma. Liguori Parish, the Santacruzan Sagala sa Parokya featured Reyna Elena and her son, Little Constantine, together with seventeen (17) other reynas.

The procession began at the parish, after the 4:30pm Cebuano Mass, a Mass dedicated to the Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) or GKK Sunday, presided by the San Alfonso Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Severino ‘Ben’ Capulong Jr. DCD, on Sunday, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity.

The faith-filled procession passed along the main Mandug road, entered DDF Village, and returned to the church, drawing parishioners and residents’ attention along the way.

As the light rain continued, the procession maintained with remarkable poise and strength.

Sheltered by their decorated arks, with commendable sounds in the background by the marching band, the Reynas maintained their composure all throughout the procession carefully portraying their Marian characters despite the weather condition.

Their calm and collective demeanor added to the solemnity of this occasion, earning the admiration of many faithful and spectators gathered along the streets.

The Santacruzan is based on the story of Reyna Elena and her son, Little Constantine, who searched for the Holy Cross. This story is still the main reason for the procession today. The other queens represent the Biblical figures and the titles of the Blessed Virgin Mary and her virtues, helping to show the story as the procession moves through the streets.

Despite the inclement weather, the procession showcased how deeply the Santacruzan is valued by the people of San Alfonso Ma. Liguori Parish. It brought together different generations in honoring a long-standing religious observance, showing that meaningful beliefs can still continue even through challenging conditions along the way.

Further, we thank all the GKK Servant Leaders and Members who supported the GKK Sunday by bringing with them their respective image of their patrons as included during the procession, with decorated caro filled with flowers.

The images of the Patron Saints from the forty (40) GKKs have made the procession even more meaningful and significant.

For it is a beautiful revelation that the faithful are deeply rooted and devoted in their devotion towards their respective GKK Patrons.

An expression of the Filipinos’ deep trust and confidence. That amid life’s setbacks and disruption, the devotion continues and soars high inspiringly.

As May has successfully finished, we thank all the Youth and Servant Leaders, the priests, and everyone who in one way or another has graced and supported the successful Parochial event.

Mama Mary, pray for us. San Alfonso, pray for us.
