June 8 Starts the Trimester in DepEd

The SY 2026-2027 shall formally open on June 8 with a trimester system to align with the final phase of the MATATAG curriculum roll out. The academic year consist of 201 class days divided into three specific term periods: Term 1 (June to September), Term 2 (September to December), and Term 3 (January to April). By shifting to three terms, DepEd aims to protect instructional time from disasters and non-teaching tasks, ensuring the students to receive a consistent, uninterrupted learning.

However, critics argue that the structural trimester system does not address fundamental issues like poor school facilities, lack of textbooks, or the need for a higher teacher compensation.
