Father’s Day

Hurrah for the fathers who are humble enough to ask help and guidance from God. Saint Joseph, who knew his limitations, was given by God the task to care for the Word Incarnate and the Immaculate Conception. Wow! Seems like a Mission Impossible, but he knew how to say ‘yes!’ to God like all the saints through the centuries. He gave himself totally, and so became a life-giving gift to his family. This gift extends to us today. By his example, fathers can become a conduit of grace.

Say ‘yes!’ to God, and many will benefit. Turn away from God because of apathy, lukewarmness, or laziness, and harm can come to others. Neglecting the responsibility to love and to be useful spelled disaster for the younger son in the Parable of the Prodigal Son. He insultingly demanded his share of inheritance and strayed from the path of righteousness – the path his father would have him take, would have us all take.

Let us pray for the fathers who continue to struggle to give the best to the family entrusted to them by God that their hearts’ capacity to receive will become like the mustard seed, which grew to provide the family a life of grace. We only have to remember Benedict XVI’s words, “Hell is for those who do not know how to receive.” Let us receive the Holy Trinity, the Blessed Mother, all the angels, and saints who cheer us constantly in our journey. Remember the words of St. Josemaria, “Many great things depend-don’t forget it-on whether you and I live our lives as God wants.” Kudos to fathers.
